CONCEPT
Totem of Memories
project description
The entire history of his life is written on a person’s hand, from birth to death, all events, successes and
failures, joys and worries, illnesses and failures. The interdependence of atoms, the Universe, the entire
Cosmos with the fate of every human being seems incredible, and yet it is already an established fact.
The lines on the hand are our natural “horoscope” that does not contain errors or inaccuracies. There is
a quite logical explanation for this phenomenon.
Emma Gonikman, Mudras and healing gestures
Hand. A part of our body without which the most mundane activities become difficult or even impossible
to perform. Symbol of work, love and relationship. Testimony of our actions. A reflection of health and life
experiences. A carrier of an individual and natural “code” belonging to only one person.
The installation refers to the symbolism of a totem, an emblem and a sign of the bond between people
and gods, emphasizing respect for what it represents. A structure showing the importance of the hand as
a unique symbol of interpersonal relationships and a personalized database about ourselves.
