Katarzyna Zawistowska
She is a scenographer and lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, Poland. She lead the studio of Architecture of the performance and scenography at the Architecture Department. In 2005 completed her post graduate interdisciplinary studies in Architecture+ Dialogue at the same Academy.Obtained her PHD degree in 2013 by defence dissertation: INTER|auditorium. Architecture of the auditorium and the city.
Katarzyna was awarded in the competition organised by the Theatre Institute in Warsaw for the best diploma in scenography of the year (2006). Her scenographic designs were presented at numerous exhibitions among works of other students. Latest one was in 2011 as the exhibition
accompanying the XIIth Quadrennial of Scenography in Prague (PQ), Czech Republic.
Individually she presented her scenographic and architectural works at the XIth Quadrennial of Scenography in Prague in 2007 and in South Korea, where she was invited by Hooyong Performing Arts Centre (2008). She took part in an international scientific conference organised by the International Federation for Theatre Research in Prague (2007) and in Seoul (2008). In 2011, she
took part in the Open Laboratory – architectural section during XIIth PQ.
In 2011 the Municipality of Gdańsk awarded her a Prize for Young Creator of Culture of the year. In this same year she did an open-air performance, named Theatre on the Barge – Possible City project was located on waterfront two cities – in Gdańsk and Tczew. She presented them at World Stage Design exhibition in Cardiff, Great Britain (2013). In 2012 she received The Theater Award of the City of Gdańsk for the set design and costumes for the modern dance performances The Dream with choreography by Wojciech Misiuro (Baltic Opera House in Gdańsk, 2011)
Among others she is the author of costumes and scenographies to operas, ballet and modern dance performances staged in the Baltic Opera House in Gdańsk (2009-2021). She designed costumes to several performances directed by Grzegorz Wiśniewski (2008-2010) or Iwona Kempa (2009).
In the span of last four years (2021-2024) she complited
_scenographic and costumes designs to the Beethoven’s opera Fidelio which was directed by German director Michael Sturm in the Baltic Opera House in Gdańsk (2021).
_set design for prestigious event of the European Solidarity Center in Gdańsk: jubilee of the 80th birthday of President Lech Wałęsa and the 40th anniversary of awarding him the Nobel Prize. On 29 September 2023, his benefis took place there with the participation of many distinguished guests: politicians, diplomats, journalists, Solidarity activists.
_her latest work as costume and set designer had premiere on march 2024 in Polish Theatre in Warsaw. Kharkov, Kharkov by Serhiy Zhadan was directed by Ukrainian director Svitlana Oleshko.
