Ao Li
Ao Li is a set designer based in Shanghai and New York.
His recent designs in China include: Dream of the Red Chamber, Border Town, Secret World, After Immortality, 25sqm Rhapsody, The Ark, Tales in the Marsh, 31 Show, Fengqi Dachen, Be Seen, Panda, Shall I Compare You to A Spring Breeze, Precursor, Traces and Lau, Reborn, ALPHAVILLE, £¥€$ 2.0, Sherlock Holmes: Secrets of the Anderson Family, Of Mice and Men,Li Zi-Zhou in 1929, Forever Love, Once Upon A Time in Our Youth, A Summer’s Day, The Invisible Cities, Omnipotent Youth Society 2023 among others.
His designs in the U.S. include: Redwood, Kiss, All My Fathers, Airline Highway, Lucretia, Scraps, As You Like It, Waiting for Godot, The Tempest, Where is My Maple Town, ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore, Titus Andronicus etc.
He holds an MFA in Set Design from Yale School of Drama and a BFA in Stage Design from Shanghai Theatre Academy.
He is the Founder and Visual Director of MAKEASCENE Studio, and an adjunct professor at Fordham University Theatre Program (Lincoln Center).
