Introduction: Modelling on the photos and figure paintings of the Qing Dynasty and sticking to the principle of Unsimilar Similarity, the characters design for modern opera Mr. Wu Xunextracts the essence of Chinese ancient clothing and makes valid hyperbole and reshaping of it to make characters more realistic and truer to life. Meanwhile, the combination of modern style and traditional Chinese opera clothing patterns and colors not only makes a better stage performance, but also makes the characters livelier and more dramatic. Based on real life but higher than real life, as the integration of being realistic and unrealistic, the characters design for Mr. Wu Xun provides the audiences a broad space for imagination.
